S’mores, pool and a giant slide | fun time at a Mahwah family session

If I am being honest, I think I lost track of how many times I’ve had the pleasure of photographing this Mahwah family. We first did a family photo session before little brother was even born – and how he is in the 4th grade – how crazy is that?!!!! I am indeed a lucky gal to be invited to photograph this family year after year after year and watch these kids grow. Big sister E was just a toddler when we first met and now she is in high school and we are talking about colleges – it’s odd and pretty awesome at the same time:)

We’ve done family sessions at their home in Bergen County almost every year and yet each session is so different from the one prior. I always ask my family photo sessions clients what they like to do as a family because that’s the stuff I want to incorporate into their family sessions and capture. These guys spend a lot of time in the backyard in the summer – making s’mores, enjoying a glass of wine and hanging out by the pool. So after we got our mandatory ‘portraits’ out of the way that’s exactly what we did – and as you can see from these photos – fun was had by all! After all, who would not love diving into the pool and going down a GIANT slide at their photo session?? I told you – family photo session with me are nothing if not fun:)

Bergen County Family session at the Stable in Ridgewood

I recently had the pleasure of photographing this beautiful duo in Ridgewood. We chose The Stable – one of my favorite Ridgewood locations for family sessions – this place is beautiful year around and makes a perfect spot for family photo sessions!

The daughter was so adorable with her toothy smile, pigtails and knee socks – seriously – how cute is she?!!!! And the Mom was beautiful (she reminder me so much of the actress Eva Green!) and it was so sweet to capture their relationship. And lets not forget about the four legged member of the family – I love included pets in family session and little Peanut was did great!:)

Bergen County Family Photo session at Indian Trail Country Club in Franklin Lakes

I’ve been photographing these guys for years – ever since big sister E was just a bit over a year old! I’ve watched them become a family of four and then a family of five! I’ve said it before and I will say it again – it is not lost on me how special it is that families invite me to their lives and trust me to capture their special moments!

We choose Indian Trail country club as a backdrop for their Bergen County family photo session. I’ve done sessions at that locations before – it’s always fun and the dock at sunset makes for spectacular photos!

We hung out on the playground, did a bit of running on the beach and on the dock. Little sister C. absolutely loved an oar she found and was pretty upset when she had to leave it behind:)

As you can imagine, a family session with three little kids was a bit chaotic but we rolled with it and as result got these images that capture this crazy yet wonderful time for this family. The mom told me that she is always surprised that I can make their chaos look good:)

A week in the Canadian Rockies

Every September Victor and I take a ‘just-us’ trip. I know – we are very fortunate that we are able to do that and grateful for the grandparents who can take care of the kids – although these days ‘taking care of the kids’ literally means just driving them around from one place to another:)

We only had a week for this trip – Victor does not have much vacation left this year (darn corporate America and their limited vacation time!) so we wanted to go somewhere relatively close-ish. I always joke that I don’t love nature – I mean, I do but I am more of a city girl – I would choose big cities or tiny villages over a natural park any day. But Victor loves nature and being a great wive that I am, we chose to go to the Canadian Rockies – Banff and Jasper. And let me tell you something – we LOVED it!!!

I’ve heard about Banff and Lake Louise and Canadian rockies and we have seen beautiful places all over the world but nothing prepared me to stunning scenery that is Canadian Rockies! We hiked all over the places (and we are not even hikers!), saw waterfalls and glaciers and mountains and lakes, ate delicious food, stayed at cool places and had a great old time. If you are looking for a place that literally makes your jaw drop, you gotta check out Canadian rockies!
