Glaciers, icebergs, geysers and waterfalls galore – our trip to Iceland

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know that every fall Victor and I go on a ‘kids-free’ vacation.   My in-laws volunteer to take care of the girls while we away.. and no, we are not able to ‘rent them (the in-laws) out’, I’ve asked:)   Last year we went to China and this year we decided to go to Iceland.  ‘Why Iceland?’ – you may ask?  Well, I’ll tell you – because we’ve never been there!   Reykjavik is a short (5 hour) flight from New York and people usually go there for a long weekend.  We decided to spend more time there and explore what this beautiful (but tiny!) island had to offer.

Yes, it is always nice to enjoy time as a couple and take a little break from being a mommy and daddy for a bit (although every day we would talk about the girls!).  But doing so in beautiful surroundings, with plenty of good-night sleep and a ton of delicious food was even better!  Iceland did not disappoint: people were wonderful and very friendly, food was great (although I gotta say I was not a big fan of puffin) and the scenery was stunning.  It was cold (great excuse for me to get a couple of items made out of famed Icelandic wool) and rainy but even that did not spoil the trip.

In Reykjavik we got our fill of very cool graffiti:

and sculptures:

In South-Eastern Iceland we saw desolate landscapes:

drove many miles through rain and fog:

and saw lots of rainbows:

We saw plenty of waterfalls:

smelled a lot of stinky geysers

and saw glaciers and icebergs:

We drove half way across the country and got great use of our car:

relaxed some:

and took pictures of each other:

We met local wild life:

explored volcanic craters:

and saw breath-taking sunsets:

And most of all, we enjoyed being a couple:

It was a wonderful trip!  Now we gotta find a place that will be equally amazing to Iceland for our trip next year.  Any recommendations are welcome:)
