Ocean City weekend

We love to travel and almost never go back to a place where we’ve been before – there are always so many new places to discover.  The only constant exception for this rule is Ocean City at Jersey Shore.  We first went there when the girls were just 3.5 years old (back in 2011) and we loved it so much that we went back year after year after year.  We spend a week in August there and always do the same things – we go to the beach and to the pool, we eat at our favorite donut place (if you are in Ocean City you need to do yourself a favor and try Fractured Prune – made to order hot donuts – need I say more?!), and go to our favorite restaurants, we eat funnel cake and home made fudge, we eat the best pizza (Manco Manco is a must!) and go to rides at Casteaway Cove Amusement park, we sleep in and have in-room family movie nights.    The girls love it and so do we; never in a million years would I think that I would love Jersey Shore this much and yet here I am – loving Ocean City.

This summer we took the girls to Iceland and France (here is a post with our highlights from Iceland – France is coming to the blog soon) and as result did not get to spend a whole week in Ocean City.   Once day Victor and I were talking about how much we missed Ocean City and realized that if we cannot go for a whole week there is nothing stopping us for going for a weekend.  Our next door neighbors (who have twin boys a year older than my kids) go to Ocean City as well every year and they decided to come with us.

Last weekend I pulled my kids out of school early (I feel that it takes them a while to get into the ‘learning’ and skipping half a day during first week is not a big deal) and off to Ocean City we went.  After Millie died I was moping around the house all day long and it was nice to get away, change scenery, breathe some ocean air, go for a run on the boardwalk, listen to seagulls and spend time with my family.

We packed a whole lot in the 48 hours we spent in Ocean City.

There was a mini photoshoot of the girls on the beach:

that ended with the girls and their friends playing in waves:

and time spent at Castaway Cove riding all kinds of crazy rides:

there was time for ice cream and hot custom made donuts:

and time for building giant sand fort (complete with mini soldiers):

there was time for boating:

and time for stunning sunsets on the beach:

It was a great weekend in a beautiful place with my favorite people – and it was exactly what I needed.
