Photographing Ridgewood sisters | Bergen County studio photography session

Apparently this family only had one ‘professional’ photo session – when big sister A. was a few months old and her Mom took her to one of the mall photography studio places to get pictures. The way her Mom describes it, it was not a very pleasant (or relaxing) experience – the baby cried all the time, the Mom had to hold her while wearing Santa Gloves (the session was during Christmas time) and the images did not come out that great – with a wrinkly crying baby (Mom’s words, not mine). Needless to say these images are not displayed anywhere in their house.

So when this Mom scheduled a studio photo session with me she really did not have much expectations. The girls came to my Ridgewood studio and that’s where all the fun started – they were funny and easy going and I had a blast getting to know them and making them laugh. And then we headed outside and proceeded with our sessions in a cool spot that’s very close to my studio – the color of the background matched their beautiful blue eyes perfectly!

When Mom saw these images at the studio during her viewing/ordering session she was very surprised – I guess her mall studio experience did not prepare her for the world of custom photography:) She cried upon seeing the images – needless to say she absolutely loved them. And I know that images from this session will be proudly displayed in their home!

Like Father Like Son | Ridgewood photography studio session

When a kid looks at a canvas collage from his last year’s family photo session with you and asks his Dad to schedule another studio photo session session, you know you did something right. And when they come in to your studio for a photo session have a blast together, laugh and play and on the way out of the studio you overhear the little guy tell his Dad: “This was so fun, can we do it again?!!!’ you know that you did many things right:)

Loved seeing these guys at my Ridgewood photo studio – with their matching ties, suites and sports jackets. And cannot even tell you how amazing it is so see their special bond – this little guy is absolutely adored by his Dad and the Dad – by his little guy. And I am one lucky girl that I get to capture it every year!

Summer family photo session in Wyckoff

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you may noticed that I often write how much I loved a certain session or a family… and it may sound redundant when I say that time and time again but it does not make it any less true – I do love my families and the images I create for them.

Case in point is family/session – this was my first family photo shoot with them but I’ve known them for a while – big sister S. is my Alexa’s best friend and because our kids get along so well we met up with the parents and would not you know – we get along great with them so now we are family friends! And if that was not perfect enough – they also have a wheaten terrier and you know that since getting our Millie I’ve been obsessed with all things dog related:)

It seems that every parent comes to a photo session worried about their kids ‘behaving’ and I always reassure them that kids just need to be themselves – they don’t need to pose or smile on command at their photo sessions with me. And once parents let go of their expectations of that their children should be doing we all start to have fun!

At this Wyckoff family photo shoot the parents were relaxed from the very beginning and their mood reflected in their kids. The kids were being kids – happy, silly, loud, loving and I got to capture just that. And while every family session I photograph is unique in its own way, what is common among all my family photo sessions is that I capture emotions and love and it makes me so happy to do that!

Looking at these images makes me smile and what’s even more important it made these parents smile:) At their viewing/ordering session there were so may ‘awwwwws’ and at the end this Mom told me that these photographs were exactly what she wanted captured. And to me there is no higher praise than that!

Photographing long time clients in Wyckofff | Bergen County family photographer

If you’ve been following my family photography blog for a while this family will look familiar to you – this is not the first time I photographed them and I think it is not the last one either:) At the photoshoot we tried to remember how many family photo sessions we’ve had together and how many years I’ve been photographing them for and lost count – I think it’s been at least 6 years and 7 sessions! I had the great pleasure of watching the boys grow from toddlers to big kids (the oldest is going to middle school in the fall!) and see them become a family of 5!

This photoshoot took place around little G. third bday so he got a bit more attention than his brother during photoshoot. I think that’s a common occurrence though because this little guy is ADORED by everybody in this family. Being a Bergen County family photographer I meet and photograph lots of amazing families and I love capturing love between family members. But every once in a while you photograph a family where you can FEEL the love – do I sound like a song from a Disney movie?:) This is the case with these guys – big brothers were almost arguing about who would get to be in pictures with G! They were sweet and so caring and did a great job making him laugh (along with the Dad!). I did not turn around much during a photoshoot to see what was going on behind me and how these gentlemen were making G. laugh – I think some things are best left unseen:)

I love how happy and full of energy these images are – I think they reflect the T. family perfectly!

What my clients are saying about their Live Love Laugh Photos experience

I was going to write a nice blog post about photographing these beautiful, funny and spunky kids and their gorgeous momma at my Ridgewood studio. I was going to write about how I hard laughed watching K. dance to Meghan Trainor or listening to her ‘directing me’ and asking me to take a picture of her feet and the feet of her doll (which I did!) or how funny her expressions where or how she was the feistiest 6 year old I’ve seen in a long time. And I was going to write about her sweet brother J. who loves his blankieand his stuffed; and how sweet his giggles were and how much he loved snuggling with his Momma. But instead I will just use a few quotes their Mom posted on FB when she saw their pictures:

“We did a session with Lena today and she was magic. She gave me permission to not stress about my kids and their behavior. She made them feel so comfortable and relaxed. She coaxed out their real personalities by inviting through fun, humor, and laughter – and encouraging them to bring along their favorite toys (in this case a blankie and favorite stuffed animals). It was just so good!!! This my friends, is why Lena Antaramian does what she does and is who she is.

Anyone can take a photo. But to capture the true essence of a 4 year old is a whole other story! This is literally a snap shot of J. at 4 years old. His every night. His ‘guys’. His ‘blankie’. His world. His life. His brain. His experience. And somehow, Lena captured it in a 30 minute session. Thank you mama!!!!”

She gets me… This is exactly why I do what I do and why I love it so.
