When people ask me what I recommend for newborn photography – studio or at home images my answer is ‘it depends’.  Because it really depends on what my clients’ vision for their newborn session is.  If they want images of cuddly sleepy newborns than a Ridgewood newborn studio session is the way to go.  If they want to get more lifestyle-y newborn/family images than their best bet is an at-home lifestyle newborn session.

And while I am more know for my lifestyle family and newborn photography and love newborn sessions held at my clients homes in Ridgewood and other Bergen County towns, I also like meeting and photographing newborns at my Ridgewood photography studio.  For one – when parents schedule a newborn session at my studio they don’t need to do any prep – they just need to show up with their brand new baby and a diaper bag and I take it from there – I have props, bean bags, a space heater and everything else needed for a great newborn studio session.  And natural light in my studio cannot be beat!  And as you can see from my images, even at my studio photo sessions I capture images that are natural and authentic.  As a matter of fact, some of my favorite newborn images were taken at the studio!

What almost every newborn photographer will tell you is that if you would like to get traditional ‘sleepy baby’ newborn images it is best to have the session as soon after the baby is born as possibly, usually within first 10 days.  And while I agree with that, I want to say that it IS possible to get beautiful newborn images even with ‘older’ newborn.  Case in point – beautiful baby M.  She was six weeks old when her parents came to my studio for her newborn session and she did GREAT!  She slept when needed, gave us great eye contact and cuddled with her parents.  And I LOVED how chunky she was – she spent first 6 weeks of her life working on acquiring chubby cheeks and legs:)

Another great thing that sessions with ‘older’ newborns have going for them is that new parents have some time to recover and adjust to life with a newborn.  Look at this Mom – she looks STUNNING, don’t you think?!  I definitely did NOT look like that 6 weeks after my kids were born.  Hey, I still don’t look like that and my girls will be SEVEN YEARS old in a week!  But I digress:)

I loved meeting this family – they are as sweet and nice and they are good looking!  And I am looking forward to photographing baby M. sometime in the future!
