Central Park family session

This is the third year I’ve photographed this family (their fourth session!) and I look forward to each session even more than the one before.  I absolutely love seeing the kids and how much they’ve changed and grown and catch up with their Mom, who always makes me laugh!    When I first met them little S. was not even a year old and her brother  – O. was only 3.   It is amazing to see how different they are now: full of unique personalities but just as adorable as 2 years ago.   They looked so cute – as if they just walked off a page from a children’s catalog!  S. and O. made me laugh throughout the whole session and I had a great time chatting and playing with them.

I was thrilled that we decide to have this session in Central Park – I think it is such a great place for family photo sessions.   I love that you can capture natural park scape images that you would be able to get anywhere else in the world PLUS some very typical and unique Central Park images that just scream ‘New York!’  Shooting in Central Park is a paradise for a photographer and always makes me so happy:)

So what do you get when you take a beautiful family, a stunning location and an unseasonably warm fall day?  You get beautiful images – as you can see for yourselves:

This was one of the first images I captured – I think it is one of my favorite from the session – I absolutely adore everything about it!

I absolutely loved their Mom’s reaction when she saw the images: ” OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  i really thought I was going to explode from excitement as I was viewing them!”   She told me that I totally get her kids and were able to capture not just what they looked like but also their personalities.   Capturing children as they are is my goal for each session so this compliment along with her reaction to the images absolutely made me day; they are the reason why I LOVE doing what I do!

Family photo session in Central Park

I am a bit behind in blogging and there will be more posts coming up soon with session previews and spotlights of cool new boutique products.  But before I leave on vacation on Monday, I wanted to share a super quick sneak peek from a children and family session I had in Central Park this morning.  This is my fourth time photographing this family and I ALWAYS have such a blast with them.

Just love this image – the expression on the Mom’s face is absolutely priceless!

and look at this adorable little girl – love her ‘thoughtful’ expression which she came with all by herself without any prompting from me! 🙂

Capturing Memories in Central Park

I love every ‘excuse’ for going to the city and what could be better than a child photo session in Central Park!

Even though I’ve shot in Central Park many times I got there a bit before the session to figure out the best locations for the photo session.  It was around 8:30 in the morning on a weekday and the park was so peaceful and quiet – just a few joggers and people here and there; the air was fresh and everything was so clean and beautiful.  40 minutes later it was almost unrecognizable – it looked like 10 tourist buses dropped off people there.  Even despite that, it truly is the most beautiful park I’ve ever been to and I’ve been to parks all over the world!

I had a blast at this session – little G. was so sweet and SO polite – she was the most polite child I’ve ever met!   At first she was a little shy and serious but pretty soon she warmed up to me and was laughing and having a great time with her Mom.   Later in the session she found a big stick and she thrilled with it – it is funny how a stick can bring a child so much entertainment!  Her Mom was so sweet and very open to my vision and ideas, which is always great.  G. did surprisingly well and before I knew it, we were shooting for close to 2 hours, which is a lot for a toddler.

Adorable little girl and a beautiful loving Mom – a perfect recipe for a photoshoot.  I love images of little G. alone but absolutely adore images of her and her Mom – the connection and love between them radiates from every image!  I can just picture them looking at these images years from now and remembering this fun summer day when G. was picking flowers, cuddling with her Mom and having a great time in the heart of New York City.  That’s what I love best about being a children and family photographer – capturing moments like that, and ‘contributing to the family’s memory bank’ as one of my friends said.

And after the session was over I walked over to Alice’s Tea Cup (one of my favorite little places on the Upper West Side) for some nourishment.  Enjoying a delicious lunch, while looking through the images I had just captured was a perfect way for me to end this trip to the city.

New and Improved

I’ve been thinking about getting a brand ‘make-over’ for some time.  While I loved my original logo I felt that my work has evolved and I wanted a logo that represented my style – clean, fresh, fun.  So after many many iterations my new logo is finally here!   I also refreshed my website and blog as well.  So go ahead, have a look.  Hope you like my new updated look as much as I do!

And of course I could not post within an image.  I started to work on the images from a Central Park photo session I had last week and this one jumped out at me right away.  I absolutely love the timeless and fine art feel of it.  More images from this toddler session will be up on the blog shortly!

Birthday Girl and the City

Wow – I am way behind in blogging!   I do have a good excuse – have been very busy editing so a lot of awesome sessions which I will share on the blog soon.

And in the meantime – a personal post about yours truly!   Back in April (I am really behind in my blogging!) I celebrated my 35th birthday… yes, I am officially in my mid 30s now:)  Birthdays loose their excitement for some as they get older but not for me.  At the risk of sounding self-absorbed, I have always loved my birthday and still do; after all – it is a day to celebrate me!

When I turned 30 (and we were kid- and responsibility-free) I wanted to go to Paris with Victor, so we did – it was an awesome birthday weekend to say the least.   Now that we have responsibilities – a.k.a Mia and Alexa, we cannot just wing a trip to Europe so this year my  birthday celebration was a lot lower key and instead of crossing the Atlantic we crossed Hudson river and spent a night in New York City.   Victor’s parents graciously volunteered to take care of the girls so Victor and I were able to enjoy a rare adults-only weekend.

We stayed at Gramercy Park Hotel and it was great – unique decor, great location.  Whenever I am around Union Square I can never pass on the Hot Chocolate from the City Bakery.   If you like chocolate you will LOVE it – it is pure heaven – super rich and delicious.   It was close to dinner time and Victor advised against the hot chocolate saying that I would not be hungry for dinner but I could not resist.  It was even better than I remembered and before I knew it more than half of cup, around 1000 calories worth of deliciousness, was gone.  In this instance I really should’ve listen to my husband;I was not hungry at all for dinner which was a shame because the food at Craft was delicious.  By the time my second course came I could hardly eat another bite and sadly watched the waiters take away my hardly eaten dishes.   I could not even finish my desert which is really rare for me.

After dinner we walked to meet up our friends who moved to Singapore for two years and were in town for a few days.  I did not feel too hot but thought I would grin and bear it.  Well, i could not – i guess super rich hot chocolate and very rich dinner did not sit together well and I got sick right in the middle of a street!  If I felt any better I would’ve been very embarrassed, but I was so miserable that caring about what people thought of me was the last night on my mind.  Of course staying and catching up with our friends was out of the question so we took a cab back to our hotel.  I envisioned a romantic night with my husband in a nice hotel away from the kids.  Instead I spent half the night running back and forth between the bed and the bathroom  – not quite what I had in mind:)

But all is well that ends well and by morning I was almost as good as new.  We had brunch at the terrace and then decided to take advantage of a great perk of staying at this hotel – access to the Gramercy Park. Gramercy Park is one of the two privately owned parks in the city and only residents of the nearby buildings and the guests of the hotel can access it.  Victor and I passed it many times, peeking in, trying our luck with the gate but it was almost locked so I was super excited to go in.  I was wondering if we would get the actual key to the park but I guess we did not look trustworthy enough – we were escorted to the park by a concierge, who unlocked the gate for us.  The park locks in from the inside so when we were ready to leave we had to call the concierge who came to get us:)   The park was really beautiful – a little oasis in the middle of busy New York city and it was wonderful to sit and enjoy the view and the piece and quiet.   Before heading back home we walked around a bit in Gramercy – it is a such a beautiful part of Manhattan.

It was a wonderful birthday weekend despite my misadventures with food:)
