Here is a spotlight of a Bergen County family photo shoot I had in Wyckoff recently. You may recognize these sweet kids – they came in to my Ridgewood studio earlier this year for studio portraits.
At their first session big sister K. was a bit shy and made me work hard to get a smile out of her – he brother was another story – he kept flashing me one beautiful smile after another. At this session it was a different story – K. was my best friend – she walked with me, talked with me, posed for me and was REALLY enjoying being photographed! When I wanted to take pictures of her brother by herself she got so said that I told her that she could sit next to him and be in the pictures:) I cannot tell you how happy it makes me when I see kids you were previously shy warm up to me and not wanting to leave! I also gotta mention K.’s AWESOME sense of style – she came to the session with a little purse and lots of accessories… Definitely a trend-setter in the making:)
At first her little brother C. did not share his sister’s enthusiasm about having his pictures taken – all he wanted was to be held by Daddy. But we were able to get smiling images of him as well!

I loved being pregnant – all seven months of it (my girls were born 2 months early). I think a pregnant female body is absolutely beautiful and definitely deserves to be captured. When I was pregnant with my girls, I hired a photographer to capture my pregnant (and a pretty large!) form and to this day I absolutely love my pictures. So it is no surprise that I love maternity photo sessions at my Ridgewood photography studio.
But this maternity session was something else – this Momma to be was absolutely STUNNING (as you can see from the pictures!). But what’s was even more amazing was how natural she was in front of the camera – she got into all (sometimes not very comfortable) poses I asked her to get into, and just rocked the shoot. I felt like I was a high fashion photographer working with a professional model on this photoshoot:) We started our maternity photo session at my photography studio and then went outside for a few outdoor pictures. There is a beautiful blue wall right next door to my studio – it photographs beautifully and I love how great it looked against the hot pink of his hot Momma’s dress!

Can I just say how much I LOVE photographing expecting mammas-to-be at my Ridgewood photography studio? My Studio mini-maternity sessions are perfect for capturing pregnant mammas and excepting Dads.
I knew I would hit it off with this family from the emails we’ve exchanges – she was sweet, funny and so easy going. And when I met her adoring husband at their maternity photo session I knew that we would have a blast. And while the major focus of the session was on sunning Ms. L. he was cheering her from the sidelines and helping me move the furniture in the studio to achieve different looks:)
And she asked if we could get non-traditional creative maternity images, something that they would not be able to do at home (and need a professional photographer to do) and images that they can look at and say ‘that’s a cool maternity image!’ And I was more than happy to oblige! We got many different shots and unusual angels and I even brought out LensBaby (which I LOVE to use for creative shots) to get even more variety of images.
I (and most importantly this couple!) were thrilled with how these images turned out!

Decided to take a very short break in my ‘stay-cation’ and post images from a recent maternity photo shoot.
I love love love maternity sessions! Maybe I am so partial to them because I absolutely loved being pregnant. I did not care that my ankles swell up and towards the end I did not even look like myself (40 extra pounds will do that to a person!). I was amazed (a bit freaked out but mostly amazed) that I there were TWO lives growing inside of me…. I felt beautiful (I am sure that pregnancy hormones had something to do with my ‘impaired’ vision) and kudos to Victor for encouraging that misconception I had:)
This glowing Mama was absolutely stunning. During our pre-session consultation she told me that she did not like to be in front of the camera and she wanted to do this session for her husband – how sweet is that?! But she did so well – with a few helpful hints from yours truly she was able to relax and we captured so many stunning images. Just look at her – how beautiful is she?!

Believe it or not, my first personal experience with custom photography was a maternity session – my own session that is. I loved being pregnant and wanted to capture that time; and now my maternity images proudly grace the walls of Mia and Alexa’s room. And now I love being behind the camera at maternity sessions: having experienced behind in front of the camera first hand, I love helping women preserve this special time in their lives.
So needless to say I was very excited about my first session of the year – a maternity session! And my subject was perfect – she seriously is one of the most beautiful pregnant women I’ve met! And not only has she got the looks, she also has got the brains – she defended her PhD a few weeks ago. How impressive is that?! I could barely finish a book with my ‘pregnant brain’ and this woman gets her PhD while pregnant!
I cannot wait to meet their little one in a few weeks. And now I will let the images do all the talking – don’t you agree that PREGNANT IS BEAUTIFUL!
