A NYC family photoshoot in the Village

I’ve worked with these guys for over 8 years now – since the older son was just three years old. We’ve done all types of sessions together – from a newborn photoshoot when little brother D. was born to an extended family session to Christmas Sessions at my Ridgewood photo studio. We even threw in a headshot session ones – I am a full service photography studio after all:)

This was the third time we did a photoshoot together in NYC and what a fun session it was! It was my first family photoshoot since I took a COVID break in January and it was so great to be photographing people again – especially when it is one of my ‘old’ families who I just love to see and the session took place in my favorite area (Greenwich Village and SOHO) of my favorite city (NYC!).

My Signature photo sessions are very custom and before every session I talk to clients to find out how I can tailor that session to their family – how we can not only make it fun but also incorporate things and activities that are meaningful and special to them – things and activities they would want to remember years from now.

And even though I’ve known these guys for many many years ( the Mom and I were just talking about how we would totally be hanging out together drinking wine and riding our Pelotons if we only lived closer together!), prior to the photoshoot we did talk about things they like to do as a family these days. This family is into games and LEGOs so of course I made sure to capture that. And let me tell you something – watching them play Jenga made my heart race – it felt like everyone was holding their breaths at every move! And when their Jenga tower collapsed, the reactions on their faces was priceless – good thing I was there with my camera to capture that:)

My Signature Family sessions include a styling consultation – I take the stress of what to wear for the photoshoot, out of the equation and help style the family. I usually do that in person but with COVID (and in case of this family – the distance) prevents me from doing it now so many times we do that virtually. The Mom and I had a long text chain going trying to style everyone and I have to say that this team effort worked out well – I think they all look impeccable in their outfits!

Like I do for many Signature sessions, we had several locations for this family photoshoot – we started at home and then headed outdoors to the streets of Greenwich Village and Soho. Seriously, if I lived closer, I would do a family photo session there every week – that place is so photogenic. And yes, I had to watch cars but it was all worth it to create images like you will see below.
