Baby boy turns one | Ridgewood cake smash photo shoot

Lifestyle family photography is my first love so when I first opened my Bergen county photography studio back in 2013 I thought I would use it only for client meetings. Slowly I began to use it for sessions – headshots, newborn photoshoots, baby sessions – and I began to fall in love with those.  So when a client of mine asked if I could do a cake smash photoshoot for her son I thought ‘why not!’.  So I bought a backdrop (it makes cleaning up a breeze) and set up this cake smash photoshoot.  It was a blast!  This little guy is one of the smiliest I’ve seen in a long time – as you can see from his photos.  He loved hanging out at the studio, crawling all over it and exploring every corner.  He was not that interested in the cake though – he smashed it but did not want to eat it and after a few minutes he decided that he’d had enough of this whole messy ordeal and tried to make a run for it:)

I love how these pictures came out (and more importantly, so does his Mom) so I would say that my first Bergen County cake smash photoshoot was a smashing success – pun intended!

And if you have a baby and looking for a Bergen county photographer to do a cake smash photoshoot give me a call – my Ridgewood photography studio is a perfect spot for a Bergen county cake smash photo session!

Corn dogs and hot dogs and lots and lots of rides | A perfect summer day at Coney Island!

It seems that every summer I end up working a lot – be it with booking a lot of family photo sessions or working on a new rebranding project or starting up a new photography spin-off business like my boudoir photography website.  This year I made a point to be smarter – I did a lot of photoshoots at the end of spring and early summer and a few while my kids were at at sleep-away camp for the last four weeks.  But now that they are home I really want to enjoy summer with them because after all – who knows how many more summers they will want to hang out with me?:)  I am cool and all but in a few years they may want to spend more time with their friends than with their super awesome Mom.  So while I have handful of family photoshoots scheduled between now and the start of the new year I am taking it easy the rest of the summer.  We don’t have any grandiose plans – just a family trip to Smokey Mountains and a couple short trips to the beach.  I realize that we don’t need to go somewhere exotic to have a great summer – so we are planning to go out for lunches and to the movies, do a trip or two to the city and enjoy having a lazy summer.

And yesterday was one of those days – where we did not venture very far but had the best time… And all of that took place in Coney Island!   I used to live in Brooklyn so that whole area is not new to me and my kids have been there a couple of times with us and my parents.  But the friends we went exploring never been to Coney Island before and I was thrilled to show them what I think is a stereotypical NYC summer day.  We had corn dogs and hot dogs at The Original Nathans (SOOOOO GOOD!!!), did lots and lots of rides (well the kids did while the Moms watched on), had funnel cake and soft serve on the boardwalk and swam in the ocean.   We all got a lit too much sun and were EXHAUSTED by the time we got home but all of us agreed that it was the best day!!

Another photography competition, another photography award!!!

As a professional family photographer the biggest praise for me is hearing my clients tell me how much they enjoy their photoshoots and how much they love their images.  But getting recognition from my peers and leaders in the photography industry is very important to me as well – it is a stamp of approval of some sort, a way for them to say ‘you know what you are doing!’:)

This year I submitted an image to NAPCP annual international photography competition – it is a competition where photographer from all over the word submit thousands of images to be judged by top photographers in their fields.  I was THRILLED when I heard that news that one of my images make it to the Top 100 – i was walking on air that day.  When I saw a gallery of all Top 100 images I was blown away for the cheer talent I saw – every image amazing!  I honestly thought that it was an honor just to make it to the Top 100 and did not think I would win – but my husband told me that my image was on par with all other in the gallery.. And guess what – he was right!  A day later I found out that my image won a third place in the color category!  To say I am thrilled is an major understatement!!

Mother’s Day portraits | bergen county photography studio

My Celebrating Motherhood studio event is just a couple of weeks away (I have ONE spot left so if you want to brag it let me know ASAP).  And I thought it would be a good time to spotlight one of the Bergen County portrait sessions I did at my studio in time for Mother’s day last year.

Being a family photographer in Bergen county I do a lot of family photo sessions – most of these photo shoots are immediate family sessions.  I don’t do a lot of extended family photo sessions but when I do I always get emotional watching grandparents loving their grandkids, their wrinkles smoothing as they laugh with them.   I think capturing kids with their grandparents is so important; I  have a big framed portrait of me at 5 years old with my Grandfather – he is holding me up and looking at me and we both look so happy.. I don’t know who took this portrait but I am forever grateful they did because I absolutely adore it!

So when I decided to offer Celebrating Motherhood photo sessions at my Ridgewood photography studio I encouraged my clients to invite Grandmas to join in the fun and I am thrilled that a lot of them did!    When this Mom called to find out if she could invite both Grandmas to the session I gave her a very enthusiastic yes!  How lucky is this little girl to have not one but TWO grands and to have beautiful photos with both of them.

And if you are interested in capturing timeless studio portraits at my Ridgewood photography studio or having an outdoor family photo session anywhere in Bergen county or Northern New Jersey give me a call – I would love to photograph you!

Rudolph, snow balls and Christmas trees | Bergen County holiday photos

I’ve been photographing this young lady for over a year now – we’ve done studio sessions, family sessions and Christmas sessions.  Last year at her holiday photoshoot at my Ridgewood studio she was not a very happy camper – kids, just like adults, sometimes don’t feel it… She more than make up for it this year though – little Ms. E. holiday photoshoot at the studio was so fun.  She loved all my props (and paying hide-and-seek behind my brand new felt Christmas tree), throwing snow balls at me and hanging ornaments on a Christmas tree.  And wearing PJs in the middle of the day was super fun as well:)
