Fall family pictures in Ridgewood | Bergen County family photographer

I first met this family over a year ago when they came to me for a summer family photo session last year. This year they wanted to do something different so they booked their family photoshoot for October – when foliage is usually at its peak – that’s the most popular time for family pictures. Dad did an amazing job picking out cozy fall outfits for the entire family! What we did not anticipate was that it would be 80 degrees in the middle of October! The kids and their parents were great sports though and rocked their fall outfits like champs. We did have a blast together – despite being boiling hot – and that joy does come through the pictures!

Family photo session at the Top of the Rock | NYC family photography

What can I say about this family photoshoot that we did at the Top of the Rock in NYC?! Only that it was more amazing than I ever thought it was going to be! After all, when you combine a stunning family, evening attire, a beautiful fall day and one of the most spectacular locations NYC has to offer – top of the Rock – you know that the results will be pretty awesome.

What made this session even more special is this family – Michele is a dear dear friend and while they live in Texas I’ve met and hung out with her family many times and do love them! I have to admit that when Michele first mentioned doing her photoshoot at the Top of the Rock I was intrigued (who would not be?!) but also worried. I have a pretty bad fear of heights so the idea of being that high up made my palms sweat. I was also worried about the crowds – after all, Top of the Rock is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city. But somehow all my fears disappeared once I started shooting and all that remained was pure excitement of being in this incredible place and doing what I love to do – capturing family memories!

I loved witnessing the reactions of these kids when they saw the NYC skyline from a birds eye view for first time. I loved capturing all five of them taking in the beauty of what was in front of them. I loved documenting these kids’ unique personalities and my friend’s special relationships with each of them. I loved seeing Michele and her husband look at each other with so much love. And I absolutely loved sharing my favorite city with my dear friend and her wonderful family. It makes me so happy that these photos will allow this family to have a piece of New York on the walls in their home in Texas.

Fun family photo session in a park in Wyckoff

This Ridgewood family photo session could not have been more perfect – two adorable kids, two laid-back parents, cute outfits, perfect weather, and lots and lots of hugs and laughter – if that’s not a recipe for a great session then I don’t know what is:)

I’ve photographed these kids once before – they came to my Ridgewood studio for a studio holiday mini session last year. I was amazed at how much they grew and changed in less than a year. Little brother P. turned from a crowing baby into a super energetic happy toddler who seems to be always on the go:) Big sister A., who was described by her mom as a bit shy, was so warm and open – she held my hand, and was ASKING me to take pictures of her here and there!

We wanted to capture lifestyle and unposed family images, which is what I am known for! and decided on a park in Wyckoff for this family session. I love photographing kids and families there – it looks beautiful in all seasons and is a safe place for little ones to run around and have fun. And have fun is what we did! In their pre-session questionnaire this Mom mentioned that she wanted lifestyle images that captured her kids happiness and natural smiles and I think it is safe to say that this objective have been met!

Fun afternoon | Wyckoff family photo session

A group of New Jersey family photographers is a pretty tightly knit community and I am very lucky to have made great friends with local photographers. We talk shop but also talk about children, husbands, vacations, dogs and other important things:) One of such friends is Christine from Two Leaf photography. Unfortunately for us (for lucky for those of you on the West Coast) she moved out to California – so if any of you are out there you gotta look her up – she is great. Christine values my work and refers her old clients to me – which means so much! This family has been a referral from her and I am so glad that I got to meet them.

I’ve photographed these girls once before – when they came to my Ridgewood studio for a studio holiday session. I was really excited about their family session because you know – I love family photography:) I have to say that I had such a great time with them – these girls were SO entertaining! Big sister S. is wise beyond her years and knows all about sharks. And her little sister E. is hilarious – I was laughing throughout the whole session! When these girls came to my studio with their parents for their viewing/ordering sessions they ran up to me and gave me huge bear hugs – made me feel so loved! And the little one kept bursting out in giggles whenever she saw her pictures:) Both girls were involved in picking out images for their canvas collage – I think it is so cool that it was a family decision!

Summer family photo session in Wyckoff

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you may noticed that I often write how much I loved a certain session or a family… and it may sound redundant when I say that time and time again but it does not make it any less true – I do love my families and the images I create for them.

Case in point is family/session – this was my first family photo shoot with them but I’ve known them for a while – big sister S. is my Alexa’s best friend and because our kids get along so well we met up with the parents and would not you know – we get along great with them so now we are family friends! And if that was not perfect enough – they also have a wheaten terrier and you know that since getting our Millie I’ve been obsessed with all things dog related:)

It seems that every parent comes to a photo session worried about their kids ‘behaving’ and I always reassure them that kids just need to be themselves – they don’t need to pose or smile on command at their photo sessions with me. And once parents let go of their expectations of that their children should be doing we all start to have fun!

At this Wyckoff family photo shoot the parents were relaxed from the very beginning and their mood reflected in their kids. The kids were being kids – happy, silly, loud, loving and I got to capture just that. And while every family session I photograph is unique in its own way, what is common among all my family photo sessions is that I capture emotions and love and it makes me so happy to do that!

Looking at these images makes me smile and what’s even more important it made these parents smile:) At their viewing/ordering session there were so may ‘awwwwws’ and at the end this Mom told me that these photographs were exactly what she wanted captured. And to me there is no higher praise than that!
