And a baby makes FIVE | at home Ridgewood newborn photo session

Being a Bergen county family photographer I get a lot of inquires about newborn sessions.  I always tell my clients that for newborn sessions they can choose between having their photoshoot done at my Ridgewood photography studio or having it at home.  I absolutely love my studio – I’ve been there almost 4 years and extended my lease recently so hopefully I will be there for a long long time.  It has great natural light (and studio lighting equipment in case the weather does not cooperate), a few props (I am not a believe in lots of props and things I have for newborn sessions are pretty timeless), snacks and drinks –  basically everything for a great photo shoot!

But I absolutely adore at home photo sessions!  And in my opinion those are the best option for families that have older kids.  To me at home newborn sessions are really family sessions a family session with a slight focus on the new addition.   Kids feel more comfortable – because they are at home, and I get to capture everyone in their ‘natural habitat’ in a way, doing things they normally enjoy doing.  I love capturing kids playing with their favorite toys, reading their favorite books, doing silly things that makes them who they are at this age.

This Ridgewood newborn photo session was so much fun!  I loved being able to capture first week of this family as they grew from a family of four to a family of five… I loved documenting big brother G. showing me his prized possessions, big sister G. reading princess books with her Mom in her amazing Cinderella bed, and little brother G. sleeping peacefully in his stunning nursery.  I loved capturing the joy of all five of them together… At one moment when the Dad was reading to the older two kids sitting on his lap, as they were listening to the story and laughing at something – and to me that felt like pure happiness… because what can be better than laughing with your kids!

So if you are looking for a Bergen county newborn photographer and not sure if you want to do a studio newborn photoshoot or an at-home session I definitely recommend that you consider doing a session at home home.  And then give me a call because I would love to document that time for you!

And a baby makes THREE | Bergen county at home newborn photo session

My Ridgewood photography studio is perfectly equipped with everything you need for a great newborn photo session – it’s got great natural light (and studio light in case weather is not cooperating), tons of props, lots of room for new parents to spread out and take a little break while I photograph their new bundle of joy.  But I love love love at home newborn sessions!  While the cost for my Bergen county studio newborn photo sessions and at-home newborn sessions is the same, the sessions are quite different.   My studio newborn photo shoots are focused mostly on the new baby and I capture lots of beautiful images of cuddly sleepy newborns;  there are plenty family photos as well – and you know me – even my studio portraits are relaxed and fun.

At home newborn photo sessions are even more relaxed – and people feel, well, at home at these sessions!  There is nothing as comfortable as being in your own home; I get to capture YOU doing YOUR thing in YOUR home – how great is that?!  If you have a beautiful baby nursery that you spent days and days designing and decorating – than at home newborn sessions are for you.  If you have a dog or older kids that you want to include in the session – then at home newborn sessions are for you.  If you cannot imagine putting regular clothes and makeup on and getting out of your house with a tiny baby – than these sessions are for you.  Images are create during at-home newborn sessions are very different from studio newborn photoshoots – they ware more relax and a lot more candid.  Like this one – I captured it before we ‘officially’ started our session – the Mom was putting finishing touches of makeup and the Dad changing the baby.. and this turned out to be one of my favorite images from the session!  But then again – I loved so many photos from this newborn photoshoot – after all when you have stunning parents, a perfect little baby boy, great light and a pretty cool apartment – how can you capture anything but great photos?!!

If you are located in Bergen County or Northern New Jersey, are expecting or just had a new baby and are looking for a great Bergen county newborn photographer reach out to me – I would love to photograph your new addition – be it at my Ridgewood photography studio or your home!

Newborn photo session with an ‘older’ baby in Glen Rock

When people reach out to me about photographing their newborns in Bergen county most of them think that they need to do a newborn session literally days after the baby is born.  And that’s definitely true for studio newborn sessions when you want to get snuggly naked baby pictures. My Ridgewood photo studio is set up perfectly for these types of newborn – I’ve got great lots and lots of props.  But I love love love at home newborn/baby photo sessions and I do them all over Bergen County.  These sessions are usually done a bit after the baby is born  – by that time Moms usually feel a bit better and are recovered from the delivery, new parents settle into a life with a newborn and the baby is more aware and awake.

This newborn photo session took place at the family’s Glen Rock home – we split time between their family room and baby A. beautiful nursery.   I loved capturing her and her parents in the family room – underneath their wedding pictures!  And loved doing part of the photoshoot in baby A. nursery – it was simple but yet beautifully decorated and felt so serene!

Sweet baby A. was just three months old at her session and she did great!  She has the chubbiest cheeks I’ve seen in a while and was happy as could be for most of the session!  She was very aware and looking at me and my camera so intently!  I got to capture a whole variety of emotions and expressions – from joy while playing with Daddy and Mommy, to sweet smiles and baby yawns.  We even got a few cries because I am all about capturing the real and authentic and babies do cry!:)

2017 Year in Pictures | Ridgewood photographer

At the beginning of each year I put together my Year in Pictures slideshow with images from all family and children sessions I’ve done prior year.  I love seeing all these images together, remembering laughter and silly faces.  I am a lucky lucky girl because I get to capture all these amazing memories for all these wonderful families!   This slideshow made me smile – watch it and I am sure it will put a smile on your face as well!
