Last time I photograph this Ridgewood family was a few years ago – it was so great seeing them again. I was completely amazed at how much older the girls got (from adorable little girls they are way on her way to turning into beautiful young ladies) – yet the parents somehow managed to look younger than ever!:)
You may know this about me – I absolutely LOVE color – all my personal photo shoots are full of colorful outfits. And when my clients share my love of color it makes me super happy. So you can imagine how THRILLED I was when this Mom showed me her awesome colorful jacket and said that she wanted to use it for the pictures. We picked out amazing mustard pants for her husband from his closet – and he totally ROCKED them! Add cool outfits for the girls with cute accessories and we were set for the session.
As I do for a lot of my Signature Photo session clients, we split up the session between their beautiful Ridgewood home (their backyard is absolutely stunning!) and downtown Ridgewood. I love having family sessions at peoples homes – I think that capturing the place you live in images is really priceless and years down the road you will love having these images. Besides, where else would you feel more ‘at home’ then … at your home?:)
And downtown Ridgewood is one of my favorite places in Bergen County for family photo sessions . It is such a quaint little town (I had clients from the city come here for sessions!) and if you live here it makes it even more special having a photo shoot done there – I did it for my own family session a few years ago. I did not realize this about Ridgewood till I went location scouting but it is full of really cool urban spots that photograph really well and it makes a perfect backdrop for family photos.And after you are done with your photoshoot you have plenty of wonderful restaurants to go to to celebrate an end of a great family photo session, which is what these guys did:)

Every year I try to take pictures of my girls in the spring among blooming trees and flowers. Last April we road-tripping in Europe (still need to blog that trip!) and by the time we got back all the flowers were gone. I was hoping to their session this year but things got busy with clients sessions and I almost did not make this photoshoot happen… almost! I rallied at the very last minute, grabbed my kids in their favorite outfits (a dress for Mia and a tank top/jeans and her signature cat ears handband for Alexa) and off we went. We literally had 15 minutes and that’s all it took to capture my kids are they are silly expressions and all! And as an added bonus Victor came with me so we snapped a few pictures of each other. Neither Victor, nor I were camera ready but that did not stop us from getting in front of the camera with our girls!

If you’ve been following my blog for a while you may recognize these adorable kiddos – I photograph them at my Ridgewood photography studio every year! And I love doing side-by-side comparisons to see how much they’ve grown and each in a year. As a children photographer I consider it such a privilege to be able to watch kids grow and document these milestones for their parents.
I always recommend that parents bring toys, books and anything else their kids love – I think it is important to capture them in pictures and they make images a lot more meaningful. This adorable guy just LOVES his doggie – and I love how images with him and his Doggie came out. And his sweet sister did a great job posing for me – and I loved capturing all her different expressions!
We laughed, had a few tickle fights, played with toys and took lots of pictures!

After taking a nice long break in January to recover and re-cooperate from the busy holiday season, I was thrilled to be back at in Ridgewood photo studio to photograph this sweet girl who is an ambassador for the Free2Luv #FriendsDontLetFriendsBully anti-bullying campaign. Free2Luv is a great non-profit organization and their goal is celebrate individuality and quality and stand up to bullying through art and creativity. It is all about spreading kindness, acceptance and love – and what can be better than that?!
Madeleine is a talented young actress (she appeared on Broadway and on the small screen!) and was such a pleasure to photograph. Her Mom brought a whole lot of outfits to the shoot – think tutus, funky hats, sparky dresses, colorful converse sneakers, glittery headbands, fake furs and of course some pretty cool Free2Luv apparel! I cannot even say how much I loved looking through all these goodies and coming up with funky and fun outfits for Madeleine to wear! Originally we thought about doing the whole photoshoot in the studio but the weather was nice and I suggested that we go outside for a change of scenery. There is a beautiful blue door across the street from my studio and it provides a cool backdrop for portraits – which is exactly what we needed for this session!

I consider myself very lucky because I get to work with and photograph so many wonderful Ridgewood families. But out of all family sessions I’ve done recently (and as you can see from my blog, I’ve photographed a LOT of families) this one one of the easiest! The kids were very excited about the photo shoot and had a great time playing and laughing with their parents, goofing around with me, building sand castles and relaxing on the dock. There was no tantrums or tears, just lots of smiles, hugs and sandy feet and toes:)
We decided to have this family session at Indian Trail in Country club – I love photographing families there – it is such a beautiful setting and a photo shoot feels really like a big play date for kids! After the session this Mom told me that the kids had such a great experience that they were talking about me for weeks after the session – as you can imagine, that made me VERY HAPPY!:)
