Family photo session in Greenwich Village | NYC Family photographer

Can I just say how much LOVED this session!  I loved everything about it – from the beautiful family (there is a great story behind them) to the amazing location to the wonderful weather and bright colors!

I first met these guys 3 years ago when it was just this beautiful Mom and RJ.  This Mom wanted to capture a new chapter in their lives and their special connection.  We laughed and had a great time at their photoshoot and got beautiful images – that this Mom used as her profile pictures on FB for years to come:)

Now fast forward to this summer when I get a call from a gentleman who said that he wanted to surprise his wife with a photo session for her birthday (a photo session makes a wonderful gift !) and that he chose me because I’d photographed her and her son in the past.   He was L.’s new husband and I liked him right away because of the thoughtful gift he chose for her birthday.  But then I met him in person and liked him even more – he is funny, easy going, has great taste in clothing and it is obvious how much he loves L.!

I cannot say how happy I was to meet two new men in L.’s life – her wonderful new husband and her adorable baby boy and to capture this new wonderful chapter in their lives! Being a family photographer I cannot but get emotionally involved and connected with every family I photograph: I worry when I hear about illnesses and rejoice when I hear about new births, weddings and new and exciting chapters in peoples lives.  And being there to capture these new exciting chapters, seeing new babies being born, watching babies turn into toddlers and toddlers turn into big boys and girls makes me happier than I can express in words!

So enjoy these images from a family photo shoot we did in the city – in their new neighborhood in the heart of Greenwich Village and in Soho.  I absolutely loved photographing them – seeing them all together, happy and so in love made my heart sing and I think I had a smile on my face throught their whole photoshoot.  And even though I’ve seen these images many time they make me smile every single time I see them:)

And if you would like to get beautiful pictures of YOUR family don’t forget to take advantage of my free holiday mini session specials and get a free photo session for your children at my Ridgewood studio when you book a new 2016 family session.  Get more info about it here.

Capturing NYC with a lensbaby | Anniversary Weekend

Last weekend was Victor and I 11th wedding anniversary and as we always do, we had a little ‘just-us’ weekend get-away.  The girls spent the weekend with my parents in Brooklyn while Victor and I spent our weekend reliving our early married years in downtown NYC.  What a wonderful weekend it was – the weather was perfect, the city was not too crowded (which is always the case in the summer), World Cup was going on,

I’ve taken a ton of images of NYC over the years so this time I decided to bring only one lens – a lensbaby Composer Pro with a sweet spot 35 optic.  The reason for it was two-fold: 1) I wanted to challenge myself by only using this lens and 2) I did not want to carry any of my ‘big’ lenses with me – and this one is SO TINY!  And even though photographing using a lensbaby takes longer than it does with a regular lens, my husband was patient with me and I did get some images that I love.  Here are a few highlights of our weekend – I think this lens captures the energy of the city so well!:

And on Sunday we decided to go a bit off the beaten path and took a tram to Roosevelt Island.  It was very interesting seeing the city skyline through the greenery of the island.  And the Four Freedoms park is pretty awesome – definitely worth a visit!

It was a wonderful weekend and I was very happy to have my lensbaby to capture it!

18 photographers and the city | NYC photographer

A few weeks ago I had an amazing 4 day girls-only weekend in my favorite city – NYC!   There were 18 of us from all over the country (and a few from Canada) and the only thing we had in common (besides being professional photographers) was that all of us were PinkleToes workshops alumni.  Speaking of PinkleToes workshops – I am hosting a PinkleToes workshop in Ridgewood in exactly three weeks (June 11 through June 13) so if you are thinking about getting better at running a business of family and children photography, do yourself a favor and sign up for this workshop – there is only ONE spot left!  You can thank me later!:)  But I digress…

What a wonderful weekend it was!  We walked all over the city and did all things touristy (a lot of which I’ve never done before despite living here for 20 years!).  We ate out and ordered in; we took a food tour and a boat tour, we stayed up at night and laughed at the silliest things; we played games and came up with private jokes.  And we documented every moment of this weekend:)

There was LOTS of cameras everywhere:

and many photo ops:

There were amazing views at dusk:

and sunset:

 There was lots of walking:

and many bunny ears:

There were beautiful sights:

and interesting displays:

There was lots of eating out:

and eating in:

There was posing with strangers:

and with each other:

And there were MANY amazing views of the city at night:

But my favorite part was wonderful memories and great friends that were made that weekend!  I am thrilled that I got to meet these ladies in person and looking forward to growing our friendships.  Seriously, how lucky am I to have a career that I LOVE and that allows me build lasting friendships with amazing people from all over the world!

You are in luck because this is a blog circle and you will be able to see images from ALL photographers I got to hang out with that weekend.  To follow the blog circle check out what Becky from Rebecca Keller Photography, an amazing raleigh newborn family photographer, captured.
