Family portraits

I am slowly catching up with editing and blog posts – Sandy definitely disrupted my busy holiday schedule!  Here is spot light of a Signature Session I had a few weeks ago.   I was really looking forward to it – I just love this family!  I photographed them last year when they were a family of three.  From the first email this Mom sent to me I knew that we would get along really well.  She said that when she was growing up, her family used the same photographer every year and it was great for her to watch the photographs taken year after year, while building a relationship with the photographer.  Hearing that was music to my ears because that’s exactly what I try to do with every single one of my clients!  Watching families grow through the years, seeing kids be born and turn from toddlers to little boys and girls, is one of my favorite parts of being a family photographer.

Needless to say, this session was great – spending the morning photographing them felt a lot more like hanging out with old friends than work!  Like many other Signature Session clients, this family decided to split up their photo session between a park in Wyckoff and their house in Ridgewood.   I love photographing families in parks – they are great especially for young kids and we got a lot of beautiful fine art images.  But my favorite part of the session was when we went back to their house – to make blueberry pancakes, play with trains and just hang out – where we got a ton of beautiful lifestyle images that I just adore!

Last year, like many 18-month olds, little W. was a bit shy of me and my camera so I was half expecting the same this year.  I was in for such a pleasant surprise when W. really opened up to  me – we laughed, played and he was so excited when I came to their house to finish up the session there!  His Mom later told me that I’d made a new friend in him because he kept asking where I was and even commented on my pretty dress!  What can I tell you – the boy has good taste:)

And little E. – I first ‘met’ her when she was in her mama’s belly so it was great to finally meet her in person!  She is one of the sweetest and most laid back babies I’ve ever seen – loved cuddling with her Mommy and Daddy!  She has the cutest smiles and the most adorable elbow dimples!

I took a similar shot at their last year’s session and I just had to take it again – now with M. completing their family picture!

And this is another image I had in mind before I came to this session – it is similar to an image I took like year and I really wanted to capture how much W. grew since then.

This family is building a collection of canvases of their images and I am so happy that I am able to help them capture precious family memories!
