Another installment of ‘Day in the life’ of a new jersey children photographer

Being a children and family photographer, whenever my clients reserve a photo session with me, I always give them a recommendation regarding outfits – which colors work best together, what looks good on camera in terms of textures, patterns (or lack of!), etc.  We discuss the best time for the photo session and I always recommend against having a family session in the middle of the day, when the sun is brightest and the light is very harsh.   I use the same advice that I give to my clients for my own photo sessions with the girls – I plan out their outfits, look for a great location that would ‘add’ to the images, and take them out to shoot when the sun is low to the horizon.

But what do you do when a perfect moment strikes around noon on a bright and sunny day, when your kids picked out their own outfits and therefore they are not color coordinated or look good on camera?   Do you wait for the sun to go down, hope that by that time your kids will agree to change into something more camera appropriate? I say ‘no’ – you pick up your camera and capture these moments – because these are the moments you will treasure.  Of course I would’ve loved if I had better light, or if my kids let me at least help them pick out their clothing (or do their hair) but if I waited for that I rarely would’ve gotten any images of them:)

So here is another installment of the “Day in the Lives of the Antaramians’ – the light was harsh, outfits mismatched but I absolutely love these images!  We did some gardening (that was looong overdue!):

In case you are wondering why Mia looks so unnatural in these images I will tell you why.  She is having a pretty advance stage of the PCS – Photographer ‘s Child Syndrome – every time she seems with with a camera she ‘poses’ for me – and for Mia that means striking the most unusual/unnatural pose, closing or rolling her eyes and looking looking as unnatural and uncomfortable as possible!

and visited a farm where the girls had a great time:

Love long sunny summer weekend!
